1998 Hall of Fame Concert Filled Hawai`i Theatre for Second Year

The 3rd Annual Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame concert, entitled E Hi`ipoi `Ia (cherished ones), took place on Prince Kuhio Day, March 26, 1998, before an enthusiastic audience of 1,400. As usual, friends greeted friends throughout the theater before the concert and during intermission.

Just prior to the concert, the ceremony to induct the 1998 Honorees was held in the Loge lobby of the theater followed by a private reception. President David R. Moncrief presented a living family member of each inductee with a certificate noting the honor given their musical elder. Members of the Board of Directors were also present.

The 1998 Hall of Fame honors the lifetime gifts of composition of David Nape, John K. Almeida, Bina Mossman, R. Alex Anderson and Irmgard Farden Aluli, the first Living Treasure to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. In addition, a famous song category was included in the honors: "Hawai`i Aloha" (Rev. Lorenzo Lyons); "Ua A Like No A Like" (Alice Everett; "Kaulana Na Pua" (Ellen Wright Prendergast); "Makalapua" (Konia & Eliza Holt); "Nli`i" (Samuel Kuahiwi).

Governor Benjamin Cayetano attended the ceremony, and presented each inductee's family with a Proclamation denoting March 26, 1998 as "Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame Day".
