| Here is my situation: A very dear friend of mine who is part Hawaiian is trying desperately to culture herself in the ways of her ancestors. Unfortunately, being from West Virginia, Hawaiian culture does not seep its way into our mountains easily. Anyway, her birthday is coming up and I would like nothing more than to get her a CD of REAL traditional hawaiian music or chant. Preferably something that I could order off of amazon.com or a similar site. Any and all help or suggestions would be appreciated. pinkgue@yahoo.com Miguel P.S. Being completely ignorant in the world of Hawaiian music, I found your site both educational and entertaining. Thank you. |

| Thanks for your message and nice words. We'll be expanding information on our legendary cherished ones of Hawaiian music history, very soon. On to your request: Auntie Maria sells recordings of every vintage at http://www.mele.com. I recommend any of the cassettes by the Kahauanu Lake Trio. Auntie has many. Tell her I referred you. You may also want to ask her advice. Her e-mail is The early "Guava Jam" recording by the Sunday Manoa, with the Cazimero Brothers is a more contemporary version, in Hawaiian language, that will melt your heart and bring you to our Islands in music. |
