saw a Led Kaapana concert on a local college campus. He sang a song which I believe is called manu-oo.I remember it being sung by a female singer on the Lucky-Luck radio show in the 50-60s. Any one know the name of the performer and the actual name of the song.Been looking for it all these years. |

That high voice you remember hearing was probably the gorgeous falsetto singing of John Pi`ilani Watkins, who recorded the song in the early 1960s. |

There is a nice rendition of Manu O'o on Leina'ala Haili's album...I am not sure if it is on CD...I have the words if you need but, yes, the O'o bird is a honeycreeper. Aloha, 'Ohu |

I've become obscessed with the bird and any songs mentioning the bird. Cyril Pahinui does a really nice version. The Hawaiian Audobon society has a cassette tape with manu o'o calls. I found some Hawaiian and english lyrics (I think) to a song called Ka Hale Manu o'o. The lyrics were dated October 1966. I haven't found any actual song or recording though. Any info? |
