| Aloha- I don't know if it's even possible to trace the history of a specific, however obscure, Hawaiian musician. My great grandfather, George Kia Nahaolelua, was a musician around the turn of the century. He and his wife, Madeline (Pat) Davies, toured the country playing, it appears, at dinner theaters and other concert halls. He also went by the name "Professor George Kia and his Hawaiians" when touring with his band, and his wife played with a group who called themselves the "Aloha Serenaders". He wrote several booklets, including "The Self-Instructor for the Ukulele", and as was the custom, gave ukulele lessons in Los Angeles where they lived. I have photos of him in what seems to have been the style for Hawaiian performers of the day (unless I am mistaken!):white shirt and pants, waist sash and lei. I have wondered if he was with a specific group who wore this attire. I have several photos of him and my great grandmother on my web site: http://members.cox.net/banyan_tree/index.html I am trying to find out any other information on him in his musical career. He and his wife were also in attendance at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exhibition in 1907, and I am wondering if they performed there as part of the Hawaiian delegation. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? I am looking for any music authored by him, photos, etc., anything really! Thanks for your help! Vicki DeLeo |
