You'll find biographical information about him in the now-out-of-print book by George Kanahele entitled "Hawaiian Music and Musicians" (available at most college/university libraries).

John K. Almeida was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame several years ago. You should find his biography under "Honorees" in this website. Your best source of complete biographical information in "Hawaiian Music and Musicians" edited by the late George Kanahele, which book is usually available in major libraries, especially at Universities. His best known song compositions are "Iesu Me Ke kanaka Waiwai", "Green Rose Hula" and "Tuberose Hula". He was Hawai'i's premier blind musician and had a falsetto voice described as "one of the sweetest and highest". He made many recordings, was given the title "Dean of Hawaiian Music" for his talent discoveries aired on his radio show. He was the father of Pua Almeida, and gave Auntie Genoa Keawe her start as a performer.

hey, im a high school student researching one of Johnny Almeida's song: Ku`u Ipo Pua Rose. I've had some difficulty trying to find sufficient background information on it and i was wondering if the sheet music for this particular song is out in O'ahu somewhere. I would really love to learn how to play this song on piano (if the song was put to piano). If theres anyone who could direct me in my search i would gladly appreciate the help.
much mahalo,
Kanamu

Aloha e Kanamu. I don't have sheet music, but I did a full lead vocal transcription of this song as part of my MA thesis. A .pdf of that song and the other 11 I analyzed can be found on this site. It's just the lead vocal, no chords or accompaniment.

Hope this helps.

Keola
