Kamoha'i is not a chief of Kaua'i, this is another name for Queen Emma. |

Our Hawaiian ali'i did not have just one name. They had a formal state name if they were reigning monarchs, informal names used among family and intimate friends, etc. Queen Emma was also known as "Kaleleokalani" meaning "The-flight-of-the-heavenly-one" when her son had passed away. When her husband also passed away, she requested that she be called "Kaleleonalani," the plural form, to commemorate the passing of both her son and husband. She was also known as "Kalanikaumaka" meaning "The-chiefess-upon-whose-eyes-look." In some instances, Queen Emma was simply known as "Emalani" meaning "Royal-Emma." Sometimes when it was felt that the royal name of a chief or chiefess was too sacred to use, they were referred by another name; "Kamoha'i" is one of those names. |
