Hi!! I was wandering if someone could tell me the Hawaiian word for Redneck? My children's school is doing a Carnival and this year the Theme is a Luau. We are wanting to name the Luau and thought Redneck Luau would be a good name since we live out in the country. If you have any suggestions for other names please let me know. Thank You |

Simply put, a redneck is someone from the country, not the city. In Hawaii, someone from the "country" is called "Ku'uaina." Literally meaing "country." |

| redneck luau....................interesting concept. however, a redneck has an interesting connotation, does it not? i have a better interpretation for you: pa'ina o paniolo, or a cowboy luau, rather than saying redneck.S The paniolos in hawaii were a fun loving group of men, that were just like country poeple all over the mainland., and they came as cowboys to run the cattle that first came here, followerd nyby the portufguese, most of the pamniolos here anre now portuguese and hawaiian. smiles for a real country luau, you need to use lots of palaka material...that is small white and colored checked materials. the men should were hats cowboy hats with leis on top of them, and the women leis with hats as well on them, for the ladies the old wide brim hats. i am from the country and kua'aina means the country poeple. it actually means the back of the land, as the poeple were the back of the land. they worked hard and played hard serve things from the countryside...we would eat, fish and poi, and pig and meats, and all sorts of fruits, and plantians and also we would eat breads, as the paniolos were spanish and portugues, we would eat portuguese bean soup, and chili and rice. thats a kuaaina luau!! hope this helps punohu keeping it real here in the homeland of hawaii nei |
