The hula noho or "seated dances" belonged to a group of very dignified dances in the old days of Hawai'i. When dances were done to honor a beloved chief or chiefess, it was felt that a hula noho was proper because one's head, hands or arms were not to go above the head of the ali'i. Hula noho were done in the very presence of royalty, at their feet, and much appreciated in days gone by.
