makuawahine is the more formal version; tutu (or kuku) is much more common. At a certain age, all women of your parents' generation are "Auntie" but then some of them become "tutu." It's kupuna, not makua for grandparent. Kupunakane and kupunawahine are grandfather and grandmother. |
