I am doing some research for a show. The concept revolves around the contemporary vs. the traditional - in not only music but in dance (hula). Do any of you perceive a struggle (for lack of a better word) between a newer generation who embrace a newer sound and style and traditionalists who hold on to the familiar and foundation of Hawaiian luau music and dance? Any insight into this you could give me would be very appreciated. Also, any directions to musicians who reflect that new sound and individuals who are promoting a new hula or luau experience over the traditional would be extremely helpful.

Thank you.
