| I completed a scholarly paper on "Cultural Considerations in Primary Care - The Hawaiian Culture" two years ago. I am currently looking for additional information. When I was searching two years ago for information I had a difficult time finding info. My question today is are there new websites related to this and or other resources I can contact that are new to this subjec? Thanks |

| Brenda, thanks for asking. There are 2 quality paperbacks you should read: "Nana I Ke Kumu" (Look to the Source), Volumes 1 and 2. Their primary author/editor was Mary Kawena Pukui. (See "biographies" in our website; Kawena was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995.) The Forward to Volume 1 is pertinent to your request: " Nana I Ke Kumu is dedicated to the familis and children of Hawaii. It is a source book of Hawaiian cultural practices, concepts and beliefs which illustrate the wisdom and dignity contained in the cultural roots of every Hawaiian child." You may be able to order these books online. Certainly should be available perhaps by special order from Borders. Both are still in print. Aside from your specific need, both books are very interesting reading. |

I have a class on Hawaiian Culuture and need to find an electronic version of these two books so that I can do some reference work on line. I have looked for them here on Maui and have not been able to find. If anyone knows of a Hawaiian electronic library the website would be much appreciated. |
