| Did you know that the Royal Hawaiian Band has been performing for the past 163 years? It is the oldest continuous playing Municipal Band in the United States. Originally called "The King's Band" (for it was Kalakaua who supported it) it is now under the auspices of the City & County of Honolulu. Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame inducted the entire band into the Hall of Fame, in concert, on April 14, 1999. We're still getting calls and notes from people who attended this 4th Annual Hall of Fame concert, saying how much they enjoyed the rare treat of listening to a full evening of band music in the comfort of Hawai'i Theater (without the noise of traffic or people chattering, which is the usual background at Kapi'olani Park on Sundays). |
