| Hafa Adai, I recently got the new Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti-Ori CD and there were no translations to go along with the CD and of course I don't understand any of it. I would love to know where I could get translations for them. But in particular I am looking for the english translation for IAORANA-Polynesia. I would be more than happy to email the song. Any help would be appreciated. WIth Thanxs, Lynn |

Iaorana, Please find the email sent to lynn earlier about some of the songs of one of their CDs. ***************************** Iaorana Lynn, tracks 18 is the correct one for 16-Te Varua Hau Nui. Posted on 1/1/08 at 2:14pm |
Hello, I love the song "Iaorana-Polynesia" on the Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti-Ori album. I was wondering if anyone could help me track down the music video for that song? I saw it on YouTube a few months ago and enjoyed watching it off and on. Then one day I went to watch it and the owner had taken it off YouTube. I would very much like to track it down and buy it, but I have been unsuccessful in my search so far. The video has the singer and clips of surfing, clips of warriors chanting in the water, and other scenes in there. It was very well done and is my all time favorite music video. Again if anyone knows where I can buy it please let me know. Thank you Marc PS Currently there is another music video to that song on YouTube. I think it is the story of a wedding. It definitely revolves around a couple. The wardrobe is great and the choreography is great and the story is great, but this is not the video I am looking for. . . Again Thank you |

Posted on 4/7/08 at 0:36am |
I have been learning tahitian dance by DVD since there are no classes in my locality. I am confused by two different dvd's. One says that you can do the ohuri either to the right or left, whichever is most comfortable. The other seems to require that the movement begin on the right and then to the rear. Is there a proper way to perform the Ohuri and other dance movements? Should they always begin to the right? karne |

Just ohuri, either way doesn't matter, the traditional gods will still be happy with you. Only when foreign waves pounded upon Taputapuatea did we succumb to these foreign waves of appeasing the tourist, sponsors, and the American dollar that some people make it "a matter" for you to ohuri left only or right only. Pick one and go from there. If tomorrow that you don't like it, change to the other side. Use these priciples as guidelines: competition is a foreign concept, survival on the marae matters because if you fail, you become the sacrificial meal for the gods Tangaroa, Rongo, Tane, and Tutavake. Just ohuri and enjoy the dance. |
