My cousin, Benny Kalama's music is hard to find. My sister Tani Marsh was on many Hawaiian record covers and owwned a Hawaiian dance studio in Hawaii years ago. Also I can't find the song The Palm Trees sing Aloha.(old song)

At one time, did your cousin also have a studio in Hollywood, CA? I once saw a picture of my hula teacher (Tani Marsh) on an album cover while I was residing in Hawaii. This was over 20 years ago. A few months ago, I did a search on Tani Marsh so that I could get an album with her on the cover. You know, have it framed in one of those album frames. I never ordered it, and now I don't know where I could have found it on the internet. I don't even know the name of the album. Now I wish I had.

I found your message by mistake when I was doing searching on my aunt Tani Marsh. My mother (Tani's sister) and I have one album called Polynisia with Tani . Your message was really interesting and thank you for asking.

Aloha,

Tani was my kumu 30 yrs ago...

I have an album w/ her on the cover, called Beat of Tahiti...I'm having it framed, too.

I'm trying to locate the kumus who took over her halau.

Mahalo!

Aloha,
Tani was my kumu over 20 years ago. The family who took over the halau now resides in Glendale. The halau name is Kawalea. Ty and Kathy Jones are the directors. Unfortunately 'Aunty' Kathy passed away last year. I just did a random search on Tani, but could not really find anything. I now am a kumu in South Orange County. Hope you find what you are looking for.
A Hui Hou,
Lori Montgomery

I have an origional article on Tani Marsh written in 1936 in the American Weekly when she was just a young woman. It talks about her winning a contest hula hula in the U.S. The thing is, I found this article stuffed between the logs of a cabin my grand parents built in 1936 on the continental divide in Montana. This was an old mining claim and they used news paper and cement to calk the logs. These logs are hand hewn 8-10 inches and what remains of the cabin are some of the sides. None of the roof is there because a tree fell in and crashed it down about 20 years ago. It survived 80 years in between the logs! We had to pry the logs apart and carefully pull out the papers. It has a beautiful picture of her and a nice article. If this is the same Tani Marsh, I don't see how it could not be. Anyway, I brought this article with me to Maui and I'd be glad to give it to the family and/or make copies for everyone. If intereseted please send me an e-mail and an address. Any q
uestions?

I have recently attended a school reunion hoping to connect with Kathy.
She was my best friend and did much to enhance my love for Hula.
We danced together at school functions. Could it be true, that our dear
Kathy is no longer with us? Could someone please let me know?
I would also love to get in touch with Ty, if he is interested. If he is not,
I understand.

Mahalo for your time.

~ Jeani

Jeani,

I have tried a couple of ways to contact either Ty or anybody else at the halau. I've left phone messages on their listed halau phone #, I've sent e-mails to the halau website address listed and I haven't heard from anybody. I noticed that the halau (Kawalea) was listed in the Lotus Festival Program at Echo Park in L.A. this year- 2006, so the halau seems active...but I don't know. If you hear anything, I'd like to know, too.

I'm still trying to learn more about Auntie Kathy's and my Kumu Hula, Tani Marsh. I would like to honor my Kumu by knowing more about her to tell my children and hula students.

If I hear anything about Auntie Kathy, I will contact you...

Aloha,
Teri

My namer is Jay and I am Kathy and Ty's nephew out here in Eagle Rock. I'm sorry, but Kathy did pass away from Cancer about two years ago. Ty is still in Eagle Rock and is doing good.

I am a good friend and student of Kathy Jones. Although she is no longer with us, her studio continues with the teachings of Cathy Perez, a previous student. As far as I know, the studio remains at the rear of the Jones' house.
