I have searched and searched for a song that I heard in Hawaii in the 60's It may be called Tahitian Lover's Dance. The lyrics go something like this: "Down in the islands by the sea, she sang her song of love to me..tamure tamure" Please help! |

I have been looking for this song for about long as you have been waiting for an answer to your question. I believe the song is actually called Tamore or Tamure and is sung by Bill Justice. Goodluck |

The record was titled Tamore, and was by Bill Justice. From memory, 1962, and what a tune. If John MacDonald played it on his show he'd get callers requesting a replay. One of those songs I couldn't buy at the time, if I see a ever copy I'll buy it. |

The song was entitled "Tamoure" (correct spelling) and was attributed to Bill Justis (correct spelling). It was a No1. hit on the Australian charts in 1963. The 45rpm is as scarce as hens-teeth but you can listen to - and record (using a sound editing utility such as Goldwave) - the tune by going to YouTube. Search for "Justis" or "Tamoure" or both. Yes, I, too, remember when the song "Tamoure" was very popular. In my native Australia, it was very popular in 1963. The words of one verse are, "Tamoure, there on the island by the sea, you do the Tamoure with me .........." Another verse: "Tamoure, and when you kiss me tenderly ..........I learn the meaning of, Tamoure ..........". I, too, would love to rediscover all the words of the song. Some historians believe that the Tamoure, the Tahitian Lovers' Dance, was the cause of the Mutiny on the Bounty! That would hardly be surprising! What sort of a guy would want to go back to eighteenth century England, where the girls were covered from neck to ankle, after seeing a performance of the Tamoure? Tjumgul |
