| Harry Naope, the famed director of Haili Choir, was the composer of "Manu Oo." John Piilani Watkins' group did the first recording of it on 49th State Records with Lydia Wong singing the lead and the Watkins' canary in the background. This recording was so beautiful (and is still the most beautiful recording of "Manu Oo" yet), everyone fell in love with the song because of it. |

I have been searching for the name of the composer of Manu 'O'o and came across this blog. I was so excited to finally have the composer's name rather than the notation of "tradition." However, I later found information that lists John Kalapana as the composer of Manu 'O'o so I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction in terms of confirming who wrote this beatufiful mele. Mahalo for your kokua. |
