For the past 2 years I've been researching the career of Sam Ku West and his story will be told on a CD soon to be released (GrassSkirt.co.uk).Information about his manager ,Irene West,seems to dry up after Sam's death in 1930.I have loads of info about her career from 1914 to 1930 but nothing after that.Does anyone have any leads on her or any of the musicians/dancers from Sam's bands from the late 1920s ...eg Ben Kekua ,George Kalani,Matilda Kauwe ,Joe Ikeole ,Tom Makaena ,David Kina ,Hiram Kaliko ,George Kula ,Ernest Manase ,Jack Kaulahao ,Amie Maynard or Tom and Jerry (the Ukulele Brothers) |

I now have some info about Irene West's activities after Sam Ku's death in 1930 .She continued to tour Europe and Asia ,managing Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian acts .But after about 1938 is still a mystery ,so any info is still welcome ...also the other musicians mentioned in my original post . please note I have a new email address :les@grassskirt.co.uk |
