I crave your indulgence and the benefit of your knowledge.

Lately I have been entranced by a number of deliciously hot tunes from artists like Roy Smeck, and Sunny Cunha's Hula Girl and a couple of similar tracks on R Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders' 'Singing In The Bathtub' CD.

I am anxious to find some CD's of vintage recordings of this wonderful stuff.

Can any kind soul point me in the direction of the CD's I must get to learn more and enjoy this stuff to the full?

All advice will be greatly appreciated either here or by e-mail to me at g@grahamsanders.com

Thanks in advance, and rely on the gratitude of a new, if late, convert.

Amazon will have a field day on this one (unless you can also point me in the direction of a specialist dealer?)!!!!

Best wishes,

g

There is a record label in Australia that has released an impressive catalog of vintage Hawaiian music on CDs recently:

I own one lp by this group entitled "Around the Island of Hawaii" which I believe was produced somewhat as a promotion for the Hilton Hotel. I paid around $40 for the used lp and felt it was a bargain. the recording features wonderful voices, harmonies, authentic instruments and the great steel work bo billy hew len (I hope I got his name correctly). Soes anyone know of other albums, lps, tapes, cd's etc) of their work that might be available that doesn't duplicate the lp?
I would greatly appreciate getting a lead on this.

This album is great -- done by Hula Records in 1988. I got mine online at www.gemm.com (and they've got one listed today, at $17.60).

My reference sources indicate that this is the only album they recorded.
