I am interested in any information regarding "Eddie Bush". I know he played mostly on the mainland but did some entertaining in Hawaii. His mother was Lei of "Lei's Hawaiians".
He was born in 1911 and died in 1969.

The Eddie Bush I am referring to is a Steel Guitar player. He started the Biltmore Trio, and also played with Harry Owens.

I too am looking for information about Eddie Bush. I believe he died in 1969 but he once taught me my first guitar lessons and gave me his own Fender Statocaster guitar to help me practice. I never got the hang of Hawaiian Steel guitar but he was outstanding as a vocalist, musician, teacher and friend--the BEST! He is greatly missed. If you have any background information about him or those he knew please let me know. THANKS!

I heard Eddie Bush, the ukulele player, passed away recently. My parents were huge fans of his and caught his gigs when he was in the San Francisco area.

Can you tell me what he passed away from? I think he had a history of heart problems.

Very sorry to hear of his passing....his talents were unmatched. He will be missed by all.

I was amazed and pleased to see how many responses were triggered by Renee's inquiry. Renee is my half sister and Charles was the adopted son of my dad and his second wife Frieda (Peaches). I was born in 1936 when my dad was married to my mother Lottie. I do have many memories of my dad from the time he worked at the Seven Seas in Hollywood, was in the Sonja Heine Ice Show, the Ice Capades, Harry Owens TV Show, stints on Catalina Island at the Waikiki Room, and the lounge show at the Fremont Hotel in Las Vegas. My dad and mom were re-married in 1959, but for only brief period.
While in Long Beach, he worked at the Hawaiian, and Mr. C's. He married Charlene Abbott and they had Renee in 1963.
My dad developed lung cancer and died in 1969 at the young age of 58.
My wife and I live in Huntington Beach, CA and would love to hear about your memories of my dad.

Eddie Bush was married to my father's older sister, Freda (called Peaches by everyone). My father was William R. Sharp, originally from Gillette, Wyoming. I remember seeing Uncle Eddie at the Ice Capades and the Fremont Hotel in San Francisco. I also have an autographed picture of Hilo Hattie given to me while I attended one of his performances. I also stayed with Auntie Peaches and Uncle Eddie when I was a little girl while my mother recovered from an illness. I remember them giving me an authentic hula outfit that I dearly loved. I also remember him being on TV with Harry Owens and the Royal Hawaiians. My mother tells me that she cared for their adopted son, Charles, when they first adopted him. Wish I could say more but this is all that I remember......it has been a long time ago.

I am the sister of Lonnie Bush. I am typing this for my mother Greta Dixson. He is also the Son of Mr Eddie Bush. Lonnie always seems to never get mentioned and always been left out of Eddies life. He was born November 17, 1955 in Fullerton Ca. I understand he has 1 Sister, 2 Brothers by Eddie Bush. Lonnie was acknowledged when he was born by his Grandfather John Bush Eddie's Father. There are also many things that my brother would like to know about his father. The one thing that my brother requests most of all is a copy or possible original recording of his fathers album. EDDIE BUSH is the name of the Album. Lonnie, I think would apreciate somthing from his fathers past sense he has nothing or has any comunication with any relatives. My mother has pictures of Eddie from at Seven Sea Hollywood and several others. My Brother is a spitten image of his father. Any more info you can email me at this address above. My name is Audra I am Lonnie's Sister.

I was looking for information on the above amplifier. I believe it was an electric amp for hawaiian style lap steel guitars. I assume after reading the above that this early signature series amp was made in the '40's and Eddie got an artist endorsement deal with some amplifier manufacturer. I wonder who??

Any info appreciated....

RE: Eddie

I can't believe I haven't checked back befor now--still would greatly apprciate photo's of Eddie, family and the days on Catalina Island and Long Beach,CA. late 50's--early 60's. How I miss my mentor / guitar teacher.

To family I would like to say, 'how wonderful a man and influence he was in my life.--thank you for posting here'. (Also, indeed my sister and cousin and I were the swimmers in the Hancock's pool with Charles.) I regret not knowing any other family but extend my sincerest respect to you all. I remember seeing Eddie with Lani McIntyre at the Hawaiian Club and other locations / restaurants with my family--how special those times and days of music were.

[BTW--it was a Fender Telocastor blonde neck electric guitar not a Stratocastor...just want to be accurate here from my last post.]

Please feel free to call or email me with copies of photo's you might have of Eddie. I loved the man and his legendary falsetto voice (with Harry Owens and Mac. and others). An era unlike any other time--a great memory for me personally.

Thank you all for your posts here.

Can't seem to interest my grandkids in anything I own haha so I am wondering if any of you are interested in buying the guitar and amp. They haven't been used in a long time. I recently took the amp to our local shop to check it out and they had never seen one before. Another ha.

I hope this e-mail gets to the daughter of Eddie Bush, the steel guitar player. My dad, who had the same name I have was also a musician who worked in the '20's and '30's. He was a drummer, dancer and comedy entertainer with several bands during that period. In fact Eddie and my dad worked together in at least one band, the Everett Hoagland Orchestra. My dad often told me stories about their travels and such. He always spoke very highly of Eddie. In 1943 my dad was hired by Spike Jones as the band's drummer. They may have worked together in the Jones band. I hope to receive a reply if you are so disposed. More coming if you like. Sincerely,
Beauregard (Beau) Lee in Washington state.

If the discussion is about the eddie bushthat played the acoustical hawaiian guitar with the Biltmore Trio there is quite a bit of recorded music available of their work. There's a great picture of eddie and the two other members of the trio, Gibbons and Strickland (something like that) in Brozman's terrific book on resophonic guitars. I would like to find a copy of a tape or dvd of the movie "words and music: Hollywood Revue of 1929" which shows the biltmore trio accompanying joan crawfore, I believe in an upbeat song...a lot of other timeless greats in the film. Anyone know if that film is available?

There is a photo of Eddie Bush playing a National Hawaiian steel guitar in the liner notes of "Slidin' on the Frets" (Yazoo CD #2056). Bush's great falsetto singing and guitar are superb in the song entitled "Clowing the Frets. This album of mostly non-Hawaiian players demonstrates the influence of Hawaiian music in many countries.

During the 1940's and 50's my father, "Uncle Dick" Lang helped the Hawaiian musicians in Los Angeles set up "The Polynesian Society." He also organized many luaus throughout LA to raise money for the families of Hawaiian musicians who needed help with hospital bills or the rent or whatever. They called him Uncle Dick and many times many of the Hawaiians visited out home in Glendale. Almost all of the folks on the Harry Owens show would come and we would enjoy the fellowship with lots of music. Of course Eddie Bush was there. He mainly played the steel guitar but he also was just as good on any string instrument. He was famous for his portraying "The Hawaiian Cowboy."

Dad helped bring a Kawanis Club convention to Hawaii in 1954. When he died in Octobe of that year almost fifty Hawaiians made up the choir.

Can anyone throw more light on what I have said here?

Eddie Bush accompanied my Mother and her two sisters who sang in the Ice Capades during the 1940's. They were called "The Malena Sisters". I never met Mr. Bush, but feel as though I knew him from my Mom. I do have some promotional pictures from the Ice Capades with Eddie Bush and The Malena Sisters. Eddie and Peaches were also in my parents wedding party; I have that picture prominently displayed in my home. My Dad was a skater and member of "The Hub Trio". I just googled the name, Eddie Bush" and came upon this site and thought I'd drop a line. I'm trying to put together a collection of memorabilia of my parents from their days in the Ice Capades. Would love to share memories and/or stories.

I remember Eddie from the days he and Charles were living in Belmont Shoe, Ca. He was playing at the Hawaiian club at the time on PCH in Long Beach. If my memorie serves me correctly he was going with Virginia Hancock when she lived on Catalina before dhe came to live in Long Beach. We did quite a bit of fishing together and we did associate quite a bit. I remember a steel plater who huhng around us named Ronnie Salsi who always thought he could fill Eddies shoes. He got the chance one night when Eddie let him take his place at the Hawaiian club. Ronnie never opened his mouth after that. The last time I saw Eddie was at the hancock 's place. I left California right after that. I nevere saw Eddie again until a few years later whwen he had his own place in Manhatten Beach. Oh, Renee I do have a tape of Harry Owens show complete with Regal Pale Commercials with Eddie. Will be glad to send you a copy if you want.
